Information about katana swords and the different katana swords available from Twiggystreasures.com

If you are into sword collecting, one of the types of swords that would be nice to collect is a katana sword.

So what are
katana swords? Katana is a Japanese word which means backsword. The word katana is also commonly referred to as a samurai sword, as it is the samurai who have used this sword during battles back in the feudal days in Japan.

The origin of the katana words can be traced during the Muromachi period, some where between 1392 to 1573. During this time these swords were used during battles where the warriors need a good sword that will allow them to fight quickly. Katana swords are very sharp swords that can kill the enemy in just one sling, which made them a great war too

Here are some of the distinguishing characteristics of Katana Swords:

·         Katana swords are the longest among the samurai swords, measuring 24 inches in length and are used for outdoor combat.
·         It has a curved and slender single edged blade design.
·         Katana sword has a long grip so the warrior can use their two hands when holding it.
·         Katana swords are known for its sharpness that it is said to be able to split a man in one swing, from throat to groin.

Katana swords have two main parts, the blade and the hilt. Let us dissect these parts one by one:

·         The blade point of the katana is called Kissaki. Sword collectors checked the blade point to determine the sword’s value, as this is the part of the sword that is the hardest to forge. The blade point is classified according to its length. The short blade point is called the Ko-Kissaki, the medium one is called the Chu-Kissaki and the longest blade point is the O-Kissaki.
·         The ridge line along the length of the blade is called Shinogi.
·         The line the separates between the blade point and the blade plane is called Yokote.
·         Hi is the blade groove and its purpose is to make the sword lighter while still having better strength.
·         Yakiba is the line that has a unique design that stretches across the blade.
·         Mune is the back ridge of the blade.
·         Ha is the sharp edge of the blade.

My uncle used to be involved in martial arts but he was particularly drawn to katana swords just like the ones you posted here. After reading this post, I now understand why he preferred katana over the other swords.
